Wacky Hair Day & Weekend fun...

This week is the annual book fair at school and they also plan special day for the kids to get to do different things. You know, like team spirit day, hat day, wacky hair day...our favorite is always Wacky Hair Day. It's getting a little more difficult...too many heads to make crazy!! This year was no exception though...the girls were thrilled with their do's for the day...

So this weekend I get to escape with a couple of girlfriends and scrapbook all weekend! How about that for a deal?! I wasn't going to go, but Scott encouraged me to take advantage of it...the opportunity just accidentally fell into my lap when another girlfriend had to change her plans, but had already reserved a space. Anyway...I'm going and gonna get lots done! And probably wet my pants at some point during the 3 days! lol

I have to say this: Scott is something else. Not only did he tell me I should go scrapbooking this weekend, he signed us up to take food to our newest family of 3 from church...and since I won't be here to make something to take, he's going to handle that too! I know they'll eat well...he decided to cook a tenderloin in the Cajun Cooker. He made one for us last Saturday and it was AMAZING! Talley & Jackie are probably getting a way better deal by having Scott's food than if they had gotten something from me! If you ever get the chance to try any of the meat that Scott makes, you will be in for a treat! He has really been working on his smoking techniques and recipes and he's getting better and better. He has actually podiumed (placed in the Top 10 & won prizes/$$) a few times at some of the BBQ competitions he goes to every month. I thought his ribs were great before, but last month he pulled out a new recipe and they were even better! I now love eating pulled pork--he makes some awesome sauces--one with Cherry Coke and one that he calls BT sauce. I don't know what that means, but it is good. I mean, GOOD. There are always a bunch of dirty dishes when he gets done mixing it all up, but the house smells mighty tasty for a couple of days! Anyway, he's really enjoying his cooking competitions and I think he's getting much better. Who knows, maybe he'll show up on Food Network someday! Until then...I'll wonder how anyone else's ribs could possibly be any better than the ones he makes!

Why did I have to bring that up? Now I want to eat...

Ironing stinks, but bowling smells like smoke.

Does anyone in the world actually enjoy ironing? I'm just wondering. Everyone I talk to hates it and thinks I'm crazy for doing it at all. I wonder how they make it out of the house without having ironed clothes to wear. I mean, really...ironing isn't nearly as bad as wrinkles. Look at all the media chicks. They have their clothes and faces ironed. Shouldn't we at least iron our clothes? Well, I think so. I don't like it, but it has to be done...so I ironed Monday night after Girl Scouts. I don't iron everything. Just the stuff with wrinkles. Some stuff just gets fluffed if it sits too long before folding. Anyway, I got a lot done in a couple of hours: 3 skirts, 4 pants, 6 shorts, 12 dresses and 18 shirts...thought I was doing really good and then I realized I had 3 more loads of laundry that weren't in the ironing pile yet. Oh well...I'll see if I can top my record another day (56 dresses in one afternoon...four girls are a lot to keep up with when the seasons change!). For now, everyone has some smooth clothes to wear. And I have a crick in the top right side of my back...

Bowling...although fun...is also stinky. Why must everyone smoke while bowling? I mean, I don't smoke and I'm feeling pretty good about my 131 average right now...and it will probably come up a bit after this week since I bowled a 166 in my second game! I wonder if I'd bowl even better with a cigarette hangin' out of the front of my face...hmmmm. I'll stick to Mr. Pibb.

And maybe next week I won't iron for two hours the day before bowling...

Minor details...

Do you ever have those moments when you just wonder who your children are and where they came from? We do. I think Scott wonders more than me. He thinks they are so weird. They remind me of well, me...

*You know, when Savannah wears pink paisley knee socks and pink Converse hi-tops with a pair of blue shorts and red t-shirt. Brings back memories of me in high school PE class with bright purple tights under my gym shorts and pink Converse hi-tops. I thought it was great...apparently Mrs. J didn't. She called me Punky Brewster and said no more tights. I hope Savannah keeps her identity...life is just more fun with pink paisley socks...

*Or when Sydney gets her hair cut and it's at the bottom of her ears and she says, "It's too long. I want it up to here." And holds her hand at the top of her ear. I understand. Below the ear is definitely too long. You may as well be Rapunzel...

*Or when Peyton sings and sings and sings in the bedroom, the bathroom, the kitchen, the living room, upstairs, downstairs, in her nightgown...and while she's sleeping...and eating. She just sings. Sometimes it's songs we know and we laugh because it's cute for a six year old to sing the entire HSM2 Soundtrack...sometimes it's a song about bubbles and socks and Polly Pocket. Then we laugh because we can't believe she is making up verses...with the same tune each time...and the same chorus after each verse. With an ending. There's always an ending. Amazing. I love music, but that...well, that's amazing. She gets music. Did I mention that I think that's amazing? She also wants to be Rapunzel.

*Or when Lili can't tell an entire story or answer a question without spinning around and jumping up and down 5 times (give or take a few). Some would say we should have her checked for ADHD...I say we should remember how exciting going to the fair really is when you're 4...and let her jump and spin. Scott had a hard time, but he did it...and he found out that she saw chickens and turkeys (spin, spin, jump) and ducks and geese and cows (jump, jump, jump)and pumpkins and sheep (and Amy and Joshua really like these...jump, spin) and pigs (mommy's favorite!! spin, spin, spin, fall down, get up, jump) and horses and donkeys (jump, spin, jump) and tractors (John Deere!!!!!!--JUMP, JUMP, JUMP, spin, fall down again, get up, spin, jump) fish and a snake (but I didn't want to touch it, jump, jump) and snacks (cotton candy, jump, funnel cake, a cookie but I didn't want it and lemonade!, spin, jump and fall one more time.) So, did she have fun? "Yeah, it was pretty good." And she wandered off...

So we were eating Long John Silvers for lunch yesterday. Well, really we were just eating food from LJS...anyway...I don't know what we were talking about, I think I had said something dumb and realized it too late. Sydney said, "Minor details." I agreed...then she says, "Minor details? I don't even know what minor details means. I know about Minor Prophets. I don't know about minor details." Good one, Syd.

Doesn't really seem all that weird to me...maybe Scott is the weird one...he played basketball in high school and college. Super short hair and paisley socks, Minor Prophets, singing and spinning til you fall down are way more cool.

I think my kids are amazing. All of them. Even Scott...really.
